The Sleep Apnea

Treatment Process

Sleep Test and Diagnosis

We'll evaluate your condition and perform a sleep screening to see if you are struggling with obstructive sleep apnea, central sleep apnea, or snoring without apnea. Our sleep screening is highly accurate and is done from the comfort of your own home.

Treatment Discussion

After careful evaluation of your home sleep screening, we will meet with you to discuss your options and determine if a dental sleep appliance is an appropriate treatment option for your particular situation.

Oral Scan

We'll take a digital scan of your mouth and provide a detailed 3D model of your oral anatomy, which is essential for creating your custom-fitted sleep appliance.

Appliance Configuration

Using your digital scan, we’ll design and configure your dental sleep appliance to fit your unique oral anatomy. This ensures the device will be comfortable and effective in treating your sleep apnea.

Delivery of Custom Fitted Oral Appliance for Sleep Apnea

Once your custom appliance is made, we will see you in the office to deliver the appliance to you, make any necessary adjustments, and show you how to adjust it at home, if necessary. We will show you how to care for your appliance for maximum lifespan, as well as set up your subsequent visits to make sure the appliance is functioning properly for you.

Insurance and Financing Options

At Old Town Smiles, we work with all forms of insurance. Due to the high standard of care performed at our office, we are considered out-of-network providers, meaning we aren't limited by insurance restrictions that may compromise quality of care. This means you’ll pay at the time of service, and your insurance company will reimburse you directly based on your negotiated rates. We will always gladly take care of filing the claim on your behalf, so you can take full advantage of any benefits you may have, and never have to deal with a superbill or the hassle of filing on your own. We also offer Care Credit, which is a third-party financing option to make monthly payments without interest.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Does a Mandibular Advancement Device (M.A.D.) Work?

A Mandibular Advancement Device, or M.A.D. for short, is a highly sophisticated dental device that repositions your lower jaw while you sleep. This gentle repositioning prevents oral tissues from sagging into your airway, which can block your ability to get adequate oxygen. Repositioning the lower jaw into a more favorable position can be a life-saving measure that prevents your breathing from being interrupted while you sleep.

What Else Can I Do To Treat Sleep Apnea?

Your dental sleep specialist may make some lifestyle recommendations to help with sleep apnea. For certain types of apnea, these may include losing weight, quitting smoking, exercising, avoiding drugs and alcohol (especially before bed), and sleeping on your side, rather than on your back or your stomach.

What Is A CPAP?

CPAP is short for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure. This is a type of machine that pumps a steady, gentle stream of pressurized air into your airway through a full face mask, an oral mask, or a nasal mask or pillow, depending on your needs. This stream prevents your airway tissue from collapsing, which prevents sleep apnea.
